HYPE Heroes for the Summers
Engagement sessions for parents and families are key in empowering and believing in children so they can believe in themselves. As a result, year round engagement is provided for the families which includes monthly family empowerment seminars in the fall and spring and weekly sessions during the summer. In addition, HYPE builds community among the families served to support them as the best advocates for his/her child.
Parent empowerment seminars provide a safe space for adults to discuss and learn about financial education, how to talk with their child about racial and social injustice, grief and setting and creating healthy boundaries for themselves and their children.
In addition, HYPE offers mental health counseling for all families who are currently or were previously involved in the summer HYPE CDF Freedom Schools program at no cost to the families. The mental health services offered align with the parent/family engagement of HYPE Freedom School. This model of being an extension of the scholar’s life and community, keeps HYPE as a place where families turn to and trust as a referral base all year long.
