Who is Black Impact Houston?
Black Impact Houston (BIH) is an alliance of nonprofit organizations that are led by Black people and/or that have a mission that primarily benefits Black communities. The primary focus is to support and strengthen Houston’s Black nonprofits through belonging, education, advocacy, mentorship and leadership. Through its member organizations, Black Impact Houston serves thousands of Greater Houston’s most vulnerable residents and provides a range of services and offerings, including out of school time; workforce development; community development and affordable housing; arts and culture; criminal justice reform; public health; and a host of other services critical to the empowerment and liberation of Black people. Black Impact Houston empowers its nonprofit members to become integral partners in successfully building vibrant, equitable communities.
On April 27, 2023, Black Impact Houston will host its first Giving Day focused specifically on supporting Black-led and Black-benefitting organizations. Our theme is “Black Impact is Bold Impact” – supporting the work of black-led organizations intentionally and unapologetically.

* Black-led organizations are defined as those with a Black Executive Director or CEO whose primary organizational purpose is to work to build the political, economic and/or social power of the Black community. So, “Black-led” is about the demographic makeup and racial identity of the leadership as well as a political purpose of building power to ensure that the Black community thrives. This definition is influenced by the The Black Social Change Funders Network’s definition for “Black-led social change organizations” as stated in their report, “The Case for Funding Black-Led Social Change.”
